Amanda Effin Palmer and the art of asking

Don’t make people pay for music. Let them

– Amanda Fucking Palmer

There’s something about that, letting people pay for stuff without forcing them. Not pressuring people into buying from you, but let people give you money for what you make. If it’s good, and if it resonates, you’ll get paid. Or at least that’s what I believe.

I really like this talk, and I really like her  way of thinking, and how she values being in touch with her audience, offering a piece of herself just because she appreciates people liking her music and whatnot. And I must say, you’re really doing something right when a guy comes up to you, gives you $10 and says sorry for having burned your CD from a friends copy, but here’s some money. That’s something. Make people want to pay you. Make the product you’re selling that good.

Have a listen (and look! There’s some awesome pictures there!) and see for yourself.
